Election Time in America with Google Voyager

Election Time in America with Google Voyager

Google's Voyager ( a part of Google Earth) uses the power of Google Earth along with Google Education Content Creators to bring many difficult concepts to life.  Check out this presentation on Congressional Redistricting in the United States.  We've all heard about Gerrymandering but what does it really mean?  These lessons come with additional resources such as videos and websites.

Here's an example of an instructional video from the Washington Post that is embedded in the lesson.  Gerrymandering Explained?  They have also included a cool little time lapse case study of how representation has changed in one state over the years.  The lessons are short, but packed with useful information powered by the latest technology.

To browse their library of curated lessons

  • Go to Google Earth and click on the ship steering wheel icon.

  • Click on the Education Tab

  • Scroll down and explore the presentations.
If you are looking for a specific topic, click on the search icon and enter a topic.  The results will give you locations first and then Guided Tours next.

To share with your students, just click on the three dots in the upper right of the main screen area.

Click on the "Share this Page" option

Then either click the copy link icon or the Google Classroom icon to share

If you are feeling ambitious, you can create your own Guided Tour using Voyager.

Here is a blogpost with a tutorial video included.

Be sure to check out the other sections as well. (Nature, Games (these are actually quizzes), Culture and Travel.  They are full of engaging content!
