Black History Month Project Ideas
If you haven't had the chance to explore and utilize Google's Applied Digital Skills program, this is the perfect chance to do so. They have put together an amazing resource. Students will choose and research from a variety of suggested topics or choose a topic of their own. They will then create a presentation using the platform of their choice. They can use Google Slides, Google Sites, Google Docs or Google Drawings. My personal preference would be Google Sites, as this will allow them to use multiple applications and incorporate them into their very own website. This could be either an individual assignment or a group project.
Google even provides a document outline that accompanies each suggested topic such as this example here. In the outline, they provide suggested links and sources that your student can choose to use as well.
Here is the introductory video explaining how the project will work. You will need to sign in with your district Google Account to access.
If you are an Elementary Teacher (Grades 5 & 6) and would like to sign up to have me come and show your students how to create a website presentation, please click on this link and sign up for a time.
If you are are a secondary teacher, please email me so we can set up a custom date and time. dmarsh@vacavilleusd.org
Applied Digital Skills has so many lessons and is worth taking a chance to browse their extensive lesson library. Don't worry if you don't know the tech involved. These lessons have video tutorials that walk the students through all the steps. Here are just a few of my favorite lessons from the site.
- Organize Group Projects in Google Sheets
- Research and Develop a Topic
- Build a Portfolio with Google Sites
- Learn to Build, Organize, and Format a Spreadsheet
Sooo many more! Be sure to filter your results on the left side panel. You can filter by Audience, Digital Tool and Topic
